IV Vitamin and Hydration Therapy for Athletes

In Mississippi, we are no strangers to heat and humidity. So, those who exercise or play sports outdoors as summer temperatures increase must focus on proper hydration.

Dehydration can happen when more fluid is lost in the body - either due to sweating, increased core temperatures or even breathing -  than what’s consumed or absorbed from food and beverage intake. Since athletes put their bodies through extra exertion, they are likely to lose fluids more quickly during exercise, especially if it’s done in hot or humid conditions. When dehydration occurs, an athlete’s performance is hindered. In fact, dehydration can cause endurance to be cut in half. Athletes may also experience loss of agility, decreased mental sharpness, increased physical weakness, lower energy, and longer muscle recovery.

In addition, what goes on inside the body during mild dehydration is important to know. The body’s cells lose the ability to function correctly. These cells power body functions that impact everything from the muscles to the brain.  Everything from a reduction in blood volume, skin blood flow, decreased sweat rate, increased core temperature and an increased rate of muscle glycogen use may occur.

So how does an athlete know if he or she is approaching dehydration? Common signs of dehydration include dry mouth and tongue, thirst, headache, lethargy, dry skin, muscle weakness, dark urine, and/or dizziness. Athletes must listen to their bodies because catching dehydration early is the best way to reverse it and avoid a major intervention such as a more serious illness accompanied by a visit to the emergency room.

HyVIta IV Vitamin and Hydration Therapy can help athletes rehydrate and achieve the proper balance of fluids. While all types of HyVIta treatments contain a specific blend of vitamins and minerals, many of the options for recovery and wellness, which we recommend for athletes include Vitamin C, Super B-Vitamins: Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, Amino Blend, Vitamin B12, Glutathione. These vitamins and minerals improve energy, restore homeostasis and replenish what may have been lost during the dehydration process. Getting a HyVIta treatment every four to six weeks can help athletes maintain hydration as well.
